Guest Speaker: Howell Austin Gillett

Howell Austin Gillett born on 1st October, 1974 in Crooked Tree Village, Belize District.

Howell GillettHe joined the then Belize Police Force in October of 1992. He has worked in almost every district of Belize in varying capacities including as a Crimes investigator, Special Branch, Serious Crimes Squad, Patrol Branch, station sergeant, Prosecutor, Commissioner’s Staff Officer for two different commissioner, Desk officer at the Police Headquarters, Police Liaison Officer at the Ministry of National Security, officer commanding at the District Level.

He has had a colorful list of training by the Secret Service, US Army, DEA and FBI. Other areas include being trained by the Germans, British, Australian, Trinidadians, Taiwanese and Salvadorans. The salient areas of training include being one of only a handful to have successfully graduated from the FBI Academy, alumni of the Center for Hemispheric Studies in Washington DC, graduate of George C. Marshall Center in Germany, the only active police officer who has successfully attended Bramshill College of Policing in London, England and the only one who was seconded to Caricom IMPACS for a period of six months as an Intelligence Analyst.

Achievements include medals for Long Service and Good Conduct (LSM), Meritorious Service Medal (MSM), Distinguished Service Medal and a Medal of Honor from Taiwan.

Senior Superintendent Howell commanded the Belmopan Police Formation where community oriented policing was the hallmark of his leadership. He’s now the commander of Eastern Division, Region One.

Mr. Gillett was recently awarded for innovation by the Belize Public Service and an award for being a pioneer in the Youth Engaged in Agriculture program which is an initiative between the police and the ministry of agriculture.
